Jaylyn & Matthew | Engagement Session at an Indiana Castle

March 9, 2020

I’ve always wanted to grow up to be a princess and to have all the royal things in life. I’ve dreamed of living in a far away kingdoms on a beautiful hillside.

But alas. I ended up in Indiana where absolutely 0 fairytales are based.

So I’ve had to come up with other ways to get my royal-feeling fix! Yesterday I spent the afternoon with Jaylyn and Matthew for their engagement session. They chose to do their session at engagement session at an Indiana castle, MY LITERAL DREAM. On top of it being one of my favorite locations to shoot, the weather was also literally perfect. It was sunny and 60 degrees. No one had to wear a jacket or gloves in between shots and it was magical. A grown up version of a fairytale if you ask me.

Jaylyn and Matthew met in college, where she pursued being his friend even after he informed her that he didn’t NEED any more friends🤣. It all worked out though, they’re getting married in May right after finals wrap up! On an average day you’ll find them curled up on the couch watching Big Little Lies with their cat (well not literally today. Literally today they’re at their bridal shower! Let me know you a funny story about that.).

I could tell it had been a few months since I had done a 1:1 session like this. While we were walking around the property, I innocently asked Jaylyn & Matthew what they were planning on doing during the rest of their spring break. They said, “well tomorrow we have a bridal shower.” And I, their wedding photographer, brilliantly replied, “who’s getting married?”🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

For whatever reason I just jumped straight to the assumption they were attending the shower of a friend! As soon as it fell out of my mouth, I realized what they meant and immediately assured them that I knew they were getting married😂😂. They laughed at me (totally justified!).

Thanks for reading and look forward to seeing these two cuties again after their May wedding! In the mean time, if you’re trying to figure out whether to have your engagement session at an Indiana castle, check out my 3 tips for choosing the perfect location!
