Trust your wedding photographer with these 5 things!

March 24, 2020

Trust is the key ingredient to any relationship INCLUDING the one you have with your wedding photographer. There’s a reason you chose them to capture the most exciting day of your life (to date!). I know you’ve been dreaming of this day at least since you got engaged, maybe even longer, so OF COURSE you’re going to have a vision of how you want some of your images to turn out. That’s totally fine! Make sure you have faith in the photographer you select to execute on your key ideas. With the goal of ending up with BETTER images and LESS stress, here are 5 things you should trust your wedding photographer with!

Wedding photographer location choice

1. Choosing the Location of the Shot

You wedding photographer will have taken the time to familiarize themselves with your reception location or areas around your ceremony site to find the best places to photograph. LIGHT is what makes or breaks a photo! So trust that they’ll know where gets the best light and where the best scenery is.

2. Time of Day to Shoot

As I literally just typed, lighting is key to creating beautiful images. Using the natural light of the sun will produce the best lighting setting but that doesn’t mean any time of the day will give you the same results. Your photographer will know what time of day will be best to take those gorgeous outdoor shots that won’t leave harsh shadows on your face or when to sneak outside to take some night inspired shots. Plus, your wedding photographer probably has wayyyy more experience at knowing the flow of a wedding day than you do since they’ve been through TONS of them! That’s why they’re timeline pros!

3. Poses

Trust your photographer to know what pose is most flattering for you. They can see how the light is illuminating you and what is in the background. PLUS, they’ve trained and know the best ways to minimize your insecurities without you ever even knowing it! Similarly, if you have a picture idea, don’t be afraid to pitch it to them, but be open to revisions. Some of my favorite shots have been client ideas that we alter slightly to work within the lighting and location restraints of a particular day!

4. Editing Your Photos

This part comes far before the wedding day. You should be selecting your photographer based on whether you LIKE their final product (which is what you see on their website and social media!). If you plan to ask your photographer to edit a little differently, then you should PICK SOMEONE ELSE! Your photographer is an EXPERT in achieving their own style. Chances are they wouldn’t be as successful at trying to achieve someone else’s style! Still, even if you know you’ll love your photographer’s final work, trust their creative eye to know know which images will look best in black and white, color, or cropped. Trust them to use their skills to make each image stunning!

5. Printing Your Photos

Your photographer knows where to get prints made and probably has a long-term relationship with a reputable printing company. Of course you can save a few dollars by heading to Wal-mart and the like, but those locations are not meant for printing professional photos. They assume that the photos coming through their print shop are going to be unedited, so they apply adjustments to all images to try to make them look better. But you’ve hired an awesome photographer, so your images already look AMAZING! The one-size-fits-all adjustments they make will NOT look good on your photos. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to have a stunning image, order a large print, and then find the colors are off, the image is blurred, or it simply looks dull. Knowing:

  • where to print your photos,
  • what size they should be,
  • and which ones will look best in your albums, wall art, or thank you cards

is part of the package you get when you hired a professional photographer. Trust them and listen to what they think will look best for what you want.

So I know I said the word “trust” about a million times in this blog post. But that’s because it’s THAT important! TRUST YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER! Don’t settle! Shop for a photographer until you find someone you trust COMPLETELY! Someone you connect with, who makes you feel comfortable, and who you have every faith in to deliver the photos of your dreams!
